PWA Pozo 2014

I had a beautiful time in Gran Canaria! I spent one week before the competition starts in a beautiful house near Vargas. Right on a Salina was this typical house made out of stone with view of the atlantic ocean. No people, no cars… just us and the windmills. They produce their own water and their own electricity. Really something different.

There was just one day which was typically Pozo. 3.3 full power! We had 3 more days of great sailing and even some super nice surfing days with glassy headhigh waves at the Northshore. Just so much fun! Domink left the day before the competition started and I stayed one more week.

First competition this year. I was a litte bit sad before I went to the Canaries, because Karin is not competing (I´m really happy for her, because she has a baby!!!!!) but I like to spend time with her on the water. It is always so much before the competition starts. We always did some filming and had a good time on the water. But every year is different, so I inscribed one more time to do the PWA event. I didn´t sail a lot before the competition, because of my ankle injury. But I like the conditions in Pozo and I thought it will be alright somehow. It was a nightmare to balance over the stones. With the ankle not beeing a 100% stable and having some insecureness, I was not getting into my normal „Pozo flow“. I got a bit nervous and had some really close heats, because I could not find any proper waves. The conditions were marginal, I´ve never seen Pozo that flat while the wind is blowing for 3,7.
There was this south swell around, which didn´t arrive in the little bay and somehow the windswell was too weak.

But in the end we got a single elimination done. A single is always a bit of a desaster. If you mess up one heat, you are out and there is no chance to do any better. But I didn´t.
I sailed not spectacular, but very consistent and made it on the podium! It was just so nice to see that everybody was feeling happy for me.
Thanks to all the girls, we had a really cool athmosphere and a lot of fun.

SOOOOOO glad and happy!!!!!!

Now I´m back home at the baltic sea and I love to have a change. After 2 weeks of dry and windy Gran Canaria I always realize how much I like my home base. Even if it´s not windy. My little family, my friends and my beautiful garden is there!
